Over the last 3 weeks in February I was lucky enough to go out to the middle east and sail in the SATT 2017. Starting in Muscat, Oman the race tours 6 major cities around the Gulf of Arabia and offers some incredible sailing.
I was racing with team Al Mouj made up of 7 sailors from France, Oman and myself the UK. Having never sailed together before the race, it took a bit of time getting used to. But come the first leg of the race we were already competitive and didn’t see ourselves drop outside the top 3 boats for the entire event.
Unfortunately, a small navigational mistake in leg 5 meant we sailed into a forbidden zone circling an Oil rig, of which there were many in the race. Although we finished First in this leg, we were disqualified for this mistake and therefore finished Third overall in the event.
However, it was an incredible experience to sail in this event and an amazing part of the world to visit. Enjoy the onboard video made by team member Sultan from Oman…
